MAIN CHALLENGE
Reanimating a prominent corridor in the museum with a panel exhibit celebrating women of color in science who are pursuing social justice.

The IF/THEN® Initiative is a nationwide effort to advance women innovators in STEM fields and inspire the next generation of girls.

Our cross-divisional team received a small grant to develop a panel exhibit highlighting women innovators from the IF/THEN® Initiative. Our hope was to increase the moments in the museum where a visitor can witness someone like them (from the same community, interests, abilities) being celebrated for their science accomplishments. We also wanted to expand the idea of who a scientist is and what they do.

To make a bold statement in the corridor, we hung a 14’ tall printed fabric graphic on the wall before adding the panels on top. Icons that represent the women’s vocations tie the panels together, and flow onto the floor to highlight the presence of the panels and elevate a panel installation into an exhibit.
