MAIN CHALLENGE
To design, render, and price out a modern take on a Lobby and Conference room area in an old fashioned space
The Center for International Studies is housed in a very old and aesthetically unappealing office building on the MIT campus. The charge was to design and price out a Lobby and Conference room area that would be welcoming, reflect their brand, act as a natural hangout place for staff, students, and visitors, and be flexible enough to support everything from official events to small impromptu meetings.
Our process began with an exploratory workshop to determine functionality goals, likes and dislikes of the current spaces, as well as the look and feel that appealed to the team. We then developed mood boards and furniture boards to dictate how we reimagined the spaces, and followed through with some renderings of each space, with some lower cost and higher cost solutions. We completed the project by detailing the general costs of each design choice so the team could make informed decisions of how to best use their funds to achieve the space they wanted.
